Guest post from Pieter van Rooyen, CEO and Founder of Edico Genome
We’re back from Bio-IT World in Boston and excited to share recognition of our customers Earlham Institute and Rady Children’s Institute of Genomic Medicine. Our mission at Edico Genome is to propel our customers to make an impact in their fields. We want to enable our customers anywhere from sustaining crops with agriculture to aiding in diagnosis with clinical genomics. Their work is an integral part of why we do what we do.
Honoring excellence in bioinformatics, basic and clinical research, and IT framework for biology and drug discovery, the Best Practices Awards shine a light on the top companies in the industry who are continuing to raise the bar and keep the Bio-IT industry moving forward. At this year’s show, we were thrilled to have two of our partners recognized for their exceptional work on our DRAGEN platform.
Taking home the informatics award, Rady Children’s Institute of Genomic Medicine was honored for its integration of DRAGEN to accomplish 26-hour whole genome sequencing in newborns. As a result of this breakthrough in time and efficiency, 23 of the first 48 infants tested received diagnoses, and 16 had a substantial change in NICU/PICU treatment. We hope to grow our partnership with Rady’s to continue fostering partnerships with other children’s hospitals to emulate these results.
Recognized in the IT infrastructure/HPC category, Earlham Institute utilized our DRAGEN platform to unlock the complex bread wheat genome, making strides in improving global food security and sustainability. Thanks in part to the speed and accuracy of our DRAGEN Bio-IT processor, scientists have assembled the genomic blueprint of the bread wheat genome, enabling breeders to explore new variations of wheat which will help improve crop durability in response to dogged disease and the changing climate.
Congratulations to both Rady Children’s Institute of Genomic Medicine and Earlham Institute. Looking forward to the 2018 show, we can’t wait to see what our customers accomplish next.
