Pieter van Rooyen Ph.D.
President and CEO

Pieter has more than 20 years of experience inventing, developing and successfully commercializing technologies in industries including semiconductors, wireless, health care, life sciences, image processing and retail automation, with a portfolio of over 130 granted patents in these areas. His passion for bringing to market innovative technologies has led to the formation and funding of a number of technology start-ups with significant return to investors. Prior to Edico Genome, Pieter was involved in the emerging mobile health industry, in which mobile phone technology enables innovative health care delivery in underdeveloped communities. Pieter also co-founded ecoATM (acquired in 2013 by Outerwall, Inc. (NASDAQ:OUTR) for $350 mil.) and Zyray Wireless (acquired in 2004 by Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM) for $100 mil.).
Gavin Kosviner
Chief Financial Officer

Gavin has over 25 years’ varied experience in capital markets sales & trading, accounting, fixed income portfolio management and investment advising. Prior to joining Edico Genome, Gavin held positions in San Diego as an investment advisor at Christopher Weil & Co. and as a fixed income portfolio manager at American Assets, Inc. Previously, Gavin spent more than 10 years in New York in capital markets sales & trading , risk management and proprietary trading, including positions as VP Equity Derivatives at Goldman Sachs and VP Commodity Derivatives at Citibank. Gavin also spent three years in Cape Town as a chartered accountant at Arthur Andersen LLP, formerly one of the “big five” accounting firms. Gavin received his MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and his Bachelor of Commerce with Honors from University of Cape Town.
Rami Mehio
Vice President, Engineering

Rami has more than 15 years’ experience in leading engineering teams in diverse fields such as genomic pipeline development, FPGA acceleration and cellular baseband RF IC development. At Edico Genome, Rami has led the engineering effort for the past four years. His achievements at Edico include producing the DRAGEN Bio-IT Platform for ultra rapid secondary analysis of genomes. In the past year, Rami led the effort to port the DRAGEN architecture onto the AWS F1 FPGA instances, culminating in the launch of Edico’s pipelines on the AWS marketplace and other distribution channels. Prior to joining Edico Genome, Rami was Director of Modem Firmware Engineering at Broadcom, leading L1 SW, RF driver and modem BSP teams. Both a technical engineering manager and system architect, Rami has a track record of managing multi-disciplinary development teams and taking products to market. Rami was instrumental in the development and commercialization of five cellular chips and sale of 200+ million chips. He is named as an inventor for 14 patents. Rami received an M.Eng. in Telecommunications and Signal Processing and B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from McGill University, Montreal
Gavin Stone
Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Development

Gavin is an electronics engineer by training who has navigated his career into the life sciences via the wireless communications and semiconductor industries. He joined Edico Genome in 2013 to lead corporate development and marketing for the DRAGEN™ Bio-IT Processor, the world’s first next-generation sequencing bioinformatics chip to massively speed up genomic medicine. Previously Gavin managed numerous high volume cellular products and software platforms at Broadcom. Prior to that, he was part of the Zyray Wireless team that developed a 3G cellular processor. Zyray Wireless was acquired by Broadcom in 2004 for $100 million. Before joining Zyray he held various engineering and marketing roles with U.K. and South African based companies developing cellular networks, web technologies and mobile internet based solutions.
Katherine Atkinson
Vice President, Business Development

Katherine Atkinson is a successful global commercial leader with more than two decades of life science experience. During her five-year tenure at Illumina, Katherine oversaw numerous divisions, including molecular biology/PCR products, Inside Sales and most recently Global Channel Partners. In her most recent position as Commercial Director of Global Channel Partners, Katherine developed a high-performing Channel Partners program from the ground up, encompassing more than 70 partners in more than 130 countries worldwide. Katherine has also held positions at Fisher Scientific, Thermo Fisher, and Beckman Coulter.
Mike Harkins
Vice President, Global Sales

Prior to joining Edico Genome, Mike Harkins served as vice president of global sales at Thermo Fisher Scientific, heading the bioproduction sales force. Mike joined Life Technologies in 2000 as a sales representative and held positions of increasing responsibility during his 18 years career at the company. During his tenure at Thermo Fisher Scientific, Mike oversaw and participated in numerous large-scale commercial integrations. During his career, Mike has led U.S. and global sales forces at numerous companies including Invitrogen, Life technologies and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
